Socialist vs corrupt ethics

Socialist (anticorruption) ethics is the behavior that emanates from the public good. Corrupt (capitalist) ethics is the behavior that emanates from personal enrichment. Initially, the base of power is the behavior emanating from a public good, i.e., socialistic, anti-corruption ethics. In the absence of effective mechanisms to control the power, initial power is subject to corruption, the elite begins to increasingly act in the interests of its own enrichment, and violence (power) becomes the ground of corruption. Such a society over time breaks down because of the fact that the growth rate of consumption of resources exceeds the rate of growth of harvests. This phenomenon is called “Compression”. An example of such a society is ancient Rome. After the collapse of such a society, because of the lack of alternatives, its degradation occurs instead of moving, as according to Marx, to a more progressive social system. After the collapse of the Roman society, in Europe began the period called in history “dark ages”.

The next stage in the development of corrupt ethics is the idea picked up by the Jews in Babylon, the idea that the source of wealth is a private initiative. By the XIX century rationally grounded corrupt ethics transformed into liberalism. Does liberal society face the problem of Compression? Before answering this question, let’s trace the development of Compression on the example of the Russian Empire and serfdom.

Manorial ownership of land became developed in the Principality of Moscow as a system of reward by wealth for military or civil service. Servitors estate in the Russian state of the XV century was a plot of land owned by the state, which was originally inhabited by free people, agricultural workers – “peasants”, obliged to deduct a portion of their agricultural income not to the state treasury, but in favor of the landlord. The distribution of estates was caused by the lack of cash to pay for the services of persons bearing military or bureaucratic service to the state.

Serfdom was the basis for the formation of the elite of Russian society – nobility. Further, as a result of demographic factors, a process of compression takes place, which leads to the strengthening of serfdom. The number of nobility and peasantry increase at the same land resources. More and more small-landed nobility appear, they are ruined, and peasants become smallholders and more hungry. The cancel of serfdom in 1861 didn’t solve these problems, because for farmers farming remained the main method of reproduction, and impoverished nobles, forming a class of intellectuals with low incomes, were still unhappy with the situation. The logical end of the process of Compression – the destruction of society and the transition to an alternative which appeared by that time, a society based on socialist ethics – the USSR.

At the same time (1480 – the year of the liberation of Russia from the yoke of the Golden Horde, and in 1492 Columbus goes travelling to discover America), Western civilization transits to the era of great geographical discoveries, which helps to avoid the effect of Compression, serfdom is transformed into a liberal law; it seemed that due to discovered resources it didn’t have the defect of Compression. It seemed that the engine of liberalism was NTD. But in reality NTD served only as a tool to capture new resources. Russian Empire didn’t have access to the seizure of colonies, so a liberal solution – a simple abolition of serfdom – couldn’t save it. An example is Stolypin’s attempt to relocate peasants to Siberia. For them, in Siberia there was no sufficient amount of fertile land, and they came back, unlike the western colonists who steadily expanded the area of their habitat.

There flourishes an illusion that liberalism doesn’t have the defect of Compression, that NTD is enough, which opens new horizons, to meet the needs of the liberal elite in maintaining its dominant status. In order to dispel it, we’ll pay attention to the following things. The Gini coefficient, showing the gap between the incomes of the poorest and the richest, is increasing more and more. It means that the very rich people are becoming increasingly richer, the wealth of rich people goes to the richest, and poor people simply get even more poor. Pay attention to the “New Russians”, who left their business in Russia and moved with stolen capitals to the West. It would seem enough to invest in NTD, if it is so profitable, as all the conditions for it seem to exist in the West, and you can get a legitimate interest on your capital. But it turned out that the “gold veins” are rare to be found and that access to them is limited. The business which goes to the “New Russians” in the West, allows them only to barely make ends meet and leads to devastation. They fall into the general trend, where the capital of the “New Russians”, no matter what nationality they are, flow to, speaking conditionally, “the old Jews”. Such companies as Google or Apple may give some advantage over a less flexible society, but they don’t solve the problem of Compression of corrupt society. Let’s note, at last, Joe Biden, who also, apparently, doesn’t have access to a “gold vein” in the West, and who hastily, without a twinge of conscience, settles his son in the new fiefdom, in Ukraine.

Thus, to date the whole world faces the inability to solve the problem of Compression, which the Russian Empire at the end of its development ran into. The society at the base of which corruption ethic lies, the desire for personal enrichment faces the problem of Compression because of the law of increasing requirements of its elite. This is what we see pretty well on the example of the Russian elite: salaries of senior officials are growing, despite the fall in GDP. Degradation of grown pyramid of personal use hierarchy via World War II, as it happened during the First and Second World Wars, is impossible because of the presence of nuclear weapons and the risk of the destruction of all humankind. There is practically nothing to capture. Russia, like China, already belong to the liberal world. There exist fantasies of elite about artificial constraints of the world population. This approach undermines the base of the pyramid, that can’t satisfy the elite. But history knows examples of the destruction of the top of the pyramid – elite, as the dictator Sulla did in ancient Rome. The top of the pyramid is cut off, the pyramid can grow again, and corrupted society prolongs its existence. In a capitalist society there is “natural mechanism” of over-grown pyramid – a major economic crisis, such as the Great Depression. During recent economic crises capitals of billionaires have been only growing. During the Great Depression stock-jobbers were jumping from the windows of high-rise buildings, 8 million inhabitants disappeared from view of US statistics in an unknown direction, and the Gini coefficient decreased. But every such crisis is a motive for the transition to a socialist society.

Problems of first socialist society, the Soviet Union, and their solution.

The first problem. Because of hostile environment the USSR couldn’t solve the problem of survival without violence and building a tight control system headed by the Communist Party because of the need for conducting policy on large expenditures (the Civil War, accelerated industrialization, the Second World War, the arms race). Together with the disappearance of the liberal illusion, the rival disappears too.

The second problem is that, because of combination of historical conditions, the power in the USSR was carried out through the dictatorship of the Communist Party, which over time underwent corruption, and under the dictates of already corrupted Communist Party the society based on equality decomposes and returns to the corrupted society based on wealth. This problem can be solved through the development of democracy and the transfer of power to the people. The Communist Party had a very important role in the Soviet Union, it controlled the ethics of equality. This role can be transferred to the people in order to prevent corruption, there can be established ethics committees selected from the best representatives of the people, which will monitor the compliance of anti-corruption ethics of equality in all the institutions of power.

After solving these two problems, a society based on the ethics of equality has only advantages in comparison with a society based on the ethics of wealth. This is a non-corrupted monetary system that has no private owners and therefore doesn’t take a percentage for itself, which therefore allows to spend more funds on scientific and technological revolution. The lack of highly rigid control system paves the way for the initiative. These are more powerful social lifts, allowing people to climb the social ladder in accordance with their abilities and not with their parents’ wealth and, consequently, more efficient use of human resources. That’s the ability to concentrate on the most important social problems, etc.
